Despite the fact that mega-terror outfit Hamas is designated as terrorist group by the United States and few other European nations, Daily Samakal, a leading vernacular newspaper in Bangladesh, which is owned by a business and industrial conglomerate named Ha-Meem Group has been running pro-Hamas propaganda through its multimedia versions. In a video shared on its social media accounts, Daily Samakal’s Planning Editor Farooq Wasif presented a narrative praising Hamas and hinting Israel’s days are numbered.

It may be mentioned here that in the about us page in the website of Ha-Meem Group, this company says:

Ha-Meem Group is a leading wholesale clothing manufacturer in Bangladesh and in the world. The company produces some of the most fashionable denim fabrics and garment products and owns one of the most comprehensive and resourceful manufacturing facilities in Bangladesh.

Ha-Meem today is working with some of the biggest fashion brands of the world. The company has a rich history of 30 years in the textile business that has today evolved into a company with diverse interests like shipping, newspapers, tea gardens etc.

It all started with a garment company in 1984 and two enterprising men Mr. A. K. Azad and Mr. Delwar’s vision to break through in the textile industry and making Ha-Meem Group a leading wholesale clothing manufacturer in Bangladesh.

The business activities of Ha-Meem Group have been growing day by day under their energetic leadership. Thus we became a pioneer in wholesale apparel manufacturing in Bangladesh. Also Ha-Meem Group is very renowned for its wholesale apparel manufacturing in both Europe and America.

Today Ha-Meem Group employs around 50,000 workers and the company has 26 garment factories consisting of 300 production lines and 7 washing plants to produce 7 million month.

Our slasher dyeing and rope dyeing denim production is 4 million meters per month.

Major buyers of apparel items produced by Ha-Meem Group are: GAP, KOHL’S, Abercrombie & Fitch, PVH, VF, American Eagle Outfitters, ESPRIT, OSHKOSH Defense, H&M, LINDEX, Louis Raphael, ZARA, JC Penney, Tommy Hilfiger, Reitmans, Napapijri, MANGO, NEXT, and Tom Tailor.

It may be mentioned here that, Hamas is an acronym of its official name,

Harakat al-Muqawama al-Islamiya which was founded by Ahmed Yassin in 1987. Hamas emerged from his 1973 Mujama al-Islamiya Islamic charity affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood. This organization has been directly involved in series of terrorist attacks in a number of countries, while it openly brands the United States and the European Union nations as enemies of Islam.

The Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades is Hamas’s military wing. While the number of members is known only to the Brigades leadership, Israel estimates the Brigades have a core of several hundred members who receive military style training, including training in Iran and in Syria (before the Syrian Civil War). Additionally, the brigades have an estimated 10,000–17,000 operatives, forming a backup force whenever circumstances call for reinforcements for the Brigade.

The United States designated Hamas as a terrorist organization in 1995, as did Canada in November 2002 and the United Kingdom in November 2021. The European Union so designated Hamas’s military wing in 2001 and, under US pressure, designated Hamas in 2003. Hamas challenged this decision, which was upheld by the European Court of Justice in July 2017. Japan and New Zealand have designated the military wing of Hamas as a terrorist organization. The organization is banned in Jordan. In late February 2024, New Zealand re-designated the entire Hamas organization as a terror entity.

It is a mystery as to why Bangladesh’s leading apparel manufacturer and exporter Ha-Meem Group, which is earning hundreds of millions of dollars every year by exporting apparel products to buyers in the United States, Britain and the European Union is openly running propaganda through its newspaper and been also terming Hamas as a resistance group. We even do not know, if Western companies such as GAP, KOHL’S, Abercrombie & Fitch, PVH, VF, American Eagle Outfitters, ESPRIT, OSHKOSH Defense, H&M, LINDEX, Louis Raphael, ZARA, JC Penney, Tommy Hilfiger, Reitmans, Napapijri, MANGO, NEXT, and Tom Tailor are knowingly continuing businesses with a company that run anti-Semite and pro-Hamas propaganda through newspaper and social media platforms.
