The use of fish oil supports the functioning of the heart and brain, improves mental state, protects joints and bones. However, when taking it, it is worth observing the measure, since an excess of this substance can lead to negative consequences. This was told to Izvestia on Thursday, March 2, by the endocrinologist of Medicina JSC (clinic of Academician Roitberg), Candidate of Medical Sciences Natalia Tananakina.

“Fish oil tops the list of nutrients needed to maintain human health. In the largest quantities it is found in fatty fish – salmon, sardine, trout, tuna, mackerel. Fish oil is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which play an important role in many bodily functions. The use of fish oil supports the functioning of the heart and brain, reduces the amount of triglycerides in the blood, reduces inflammation, improves mental state, maintains skin health, protects joints and bones, ”the specialist listed.

The doctor also noted that pregnant women need fish oil, as it has a beneficial effect on the course of pregnancy and the development of the fetus.

“However, when taking it, it is worth observing the measure in order to prevent harmful consequences. An excess of fish oil in the body can lead to an increase in blood sugar levels, an increased risk of bleeding, and also cause belching and nausea, ”warned Tananakina.

At the same time, according to the endocrinologist, people who eat fish at least once a week are less likely to experience cardiovascular diseases – unlike those who rarely or never eat seafood.

As the doctor clarified, it is better to eat fish twice a week in boiled or baked form – this way all useful elements are better preserved. If you are not eating enough seafood on a regular basis, you can take fish oil tablets. But before that, you should consult your doctor.

Fish oil contains essential fatty acids that the body cannot produce on its own. Therefore, a person should receive them by eating fish or adding fish oil to the diet, ”summed up Tananakina.

On February 28, the therapist Olesya Savelyeva named the symptoms of a lack of vitamin D. So, fatigue and brittle nails can indicate a deficiency of this substance.
