Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar spoke about “sharp differences of opinion” in the union on crisis issues and called for finding common ground. He announced this at the opening of the G20 foreign ministers meeting on Thursday, March 2.

“Let’s remind ourselves that the G20 has the sole responsibility. It first met in the midst of a global crisis, and today again we are actually facing multiple crises,” Jaishankar said.

According to him, representatives of the G20 countries cannot always be unanimous, nevertheless, the association must find common ground and set the right direction, since this is what the world expects from them.

He clarified that this applies to issues such as the COVID-19 pandemic, concerns about the fragility of supply chains, the impact of ongoing conflicts, the debt crisis, as well as climate change.

On the eve it became known that the Indian authorities hope to help Russia, China and the G7 countries overcome differences and restore contact. The search for a compromise is one of the main tasks of the Indian delegation at the meeting of the heads of foreign policy departments of the G20 countries.

On March 2, a meeting of the G20 Foreign Ministers is taking place in New Delhi. It began with a moment of silence in memory of those who died due to the devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova also said that Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had come to the forum in New Delhi. The diplomat also denied the possibility of a meeting between Lavrov and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken during the G20 meeting, since, according to her, the United States favors the escalation of conflicts in the world and relegated diplomacy to the background. At the same time, the Russian side has repeatedly declared its readiness for dialogue with the West.
