The evil nexus of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Jamaat-e-Islami is making last-minute frantic bids in getting fresher and wider sanctions on Bangladesh Police’s anti-militancy and anti-terror elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) from the United States and Britain. While Jamaat-e-Islami’s appointed “legal advisor” Toby Codman as well as BNP’s appointed representative William B Milam are continuing desperate persuasions both in Washington and London with the notorious target of getting this fresh sanction on December 10. They reportedly have notified their clients – BNP and Jamaat that they are “optimistic” of sanction announcement of the Human Rights Day.
It may be mentioned here that BNP and Jamaat have spent millions of dollars only during the past 11 months with the agenda of getting more than 173 officers of Bangladesh Armed Forces and Bangladesh Police sanctioned by the United States and Britain. Major segment of this fund has been provided by the families of three convicted war criminals.
Meanwhile, BNP’s convicted fugitive leader and acting chairman Tarique Rahman’s own representative Mushfique Fazal Ansarey, who has managed press accreditation cards in the White House and the United Nations by falsely proclaiming himself as the “US Correspondent” of a website named ‘Just News’ (this website is neither registered in Bangladesh nor has any existence in the country) has reportedly told Tarique Rahman that the US Department of Treasury will “surely impose fresher sanctions” on “dozens of officers of Bangladesh Armed Forces and Bangladesh Police”. A source said, Tarique Rahman gave Mushfique Fazal Ansarey a large amount of money only during the past two months with the instructions of ensuring the sanctions are declared on December 10.
It may be mentioned here that, several months ago, Toby Codman sent letters to the US State Department, US Department of Treasury and relevant offices in the United Kingdom requesting them to impose sanctions on Rapid Action Battalion (RAB). Recently in an interview with Qatari broadcast network Al Jazeera, Toby Codman has admitted this matter. He also said, evidences related to violation of human rights by the members of RAB were attached with his letter to the US and UK authorities.
Toby Codman also told Al Jazeera that he has requested US and UK authorities to impose sanctions on several prominent leaders of Awami League and few officials of Bangladesh’s intelligence agencies.
According to another source, although BNP and Jamaat are confidently waiting for sanctions by the US and Britain on December 10, if nothing happens on this day, they will begin massive media propaganda against the ruling Awami League, Bangladesh Armed Forces, law enforcement and intelligence agencies in the international media. While Jamaat is looking for assigning a London-based PR agency for executing its planned media assault, BNP has already hired two PR firms in the United States.
Meanwhile, Mushfique Fazal Ansarey is making frantic bids in making arrangements with several print and electronic media in the United States for running propaganda against Awami League and Bangladesh’s law enforcement agencies.
A source said, Tarique Rahman has also instructed Mushfique Fazal Ansarey to contact international election observing organizations and extract statements stating 2024 general election in Bangladesh would be “rigged” if it takes places under Awami League government.
