Pitru Paksha 2023: Pitru Paksha is a fortnight to satisfy all the ancestors. During this, Shradh is performed for the peace of the souls of the ancestors. Pitru Paksha and Shraddha Paksha are called the Krishna Paksha of the month of Ashwin. According to the Panchang, Pitripaksha starts from the full moon date of Bhadrapada month and ends on the new moon day of Krishna Paksha of Ashwin month. Tarpan, Pindadan, Shraddha, Panchbali Karma etc. are performed for our ancestors in Pitru Paksha.

Pitra dosh will be removed by satisfying the ancestors

According to religious beliefs, by propitiating the forefathers in Pitru Paksha, Pitra Dosha is removed, along with this there is happiness, peace, prosperity, progress and growth of the family. During Pitrupaksha, Shradh Karma is performed by remembering the ancestors with devotion. By offering tarpan to ancestors and performing Shradh rituals in Pitrupaksha, they attain salvation. During this, Shradh is performed not only for the salvation of the ancestors, but also to express our respect towards them. In Pitrupaksha, there is a law to give water to our ancestors with devotion.

Start of Pitru Paksha 2023

This year Pitru Paksha is starting from Friday, 29th September. On this day, full moon Shraddha and Pratipada Shraddha are performed. According to the Panchang, Bhadrapada Purnima is on September 29 at 03.26 in the afternoon and after that the Pratipada Tithi of Krishna Paksha of Ashwin month will start, which is on September 30 at 12.21 in the afternoon. Shraddha method at home

After getting up early in the morning on Shraddha Tithi, after taking bath etc., wear clothes.

After this clean the house with Gangajal.

Make a mixture of black sesame, raw cow’s milk, gangajal and water in a copper utensil for worship.

Make anjuli out of this mixture of water and drop it in the same vessel with the thumb of your right hand. Meditate on ancestors while doing it 11 times.

White flowers should be used in Shraddha.

Ganges water, honey, milk, white cloth, sesame are the main ingredients required for Shraddha.

Always perform Shraddha in Abhijit Muhurta.

Offer kheer made of cow’s milk in the fire of havan performed for ancestors during Shraddha.

Before Brahmin feast, take out food on leaves for cow, dog, crow, deity and ant i.e. Panchabali.

Make a resolution by taking kush, barley, sesame, rice and water by keeping your face in the south direction.

After this, feed one or three Brahmins.

Significance of dates in Pitru Paksha

Tithis have special importance in Pitru Paksha, when Pitru Paksha starts, there is a date for each day. This year, on 30th September, the second Shradh is i.e. the second date of Shradh in Pitru Paksha. People whose forefathers passed away on the second date of any month. They perform Shraddha Karma to their ancestors on Dwitiya Shraddha in Pitru Paksha. Similarly, whose ancestor would have passed away on the ninth date of any month and fortnight, he will do Tarpan, Pindadan etc. If you do not remember the date of death of your ancestors, then you can perform Shradh for them on Sarva Pitra Amavasya. On this day Shradh of all known and unknown ancestors is performed.

Those who perform Shradh rituals for the peace of the souls of the ancestors in Pitrupaksha, they should not get their hair and beard cut during this time. Along with this, only satvik food should be prepared at home during these days. Tamasic food should be completely avoided.
