The Qatari Businessmen Association received His Excellency Mr. Francine Fannon, the former US Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Affairs, and his accompanying delegation, who works in the Energy and Minerals Group, to discuss an investment project related to green iron and steel.
The American delegation was received by His Excellency Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani, President of the Association, Mr. Sherida Al-Kaabi, member of the Board of Directors of the Qatari Businessmen Association, Mr. Maqbool Habib Khalfan, member of the Association and a representative of Al Mana Company, in addition to Ms. Sarah Abdullah, Deputy General Manager.
At the beginning of the meeting, Mr. Francine Fanon said that the Energy and Minerals Group tends to invest in important vital projects in Canada in the field of clean energy, and it seeks through the visit to find cooperation and joint financing for the development and operation of the developed granules plant in Qatar with a local partner. It is worth noting that the Gulf countries tend to develop green iron and steel, as only 4 percent of the Gulf imports of global iron ore meet international quality standards.
During the meeting, Mr. Fanon indicated that his group meets all international standards, the most important of which is preserving the environment through the use of green steel, which contributes directly to climate change and clean energy, including carbon capture, ammonia and electric batteries.
For his part, HE Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani, Chairman of the Qatari Businessmen Association, welcomed the delegation and expressed the interest of the members of the Association in such projects that benefit green buildings, as Qatar is interested in all development projects that benefit the environment and reduce carbon emissions.
It was agreed on more bilateral meetings to find out the economic feasibility of these projects and to find an appropriate formula for joint cooperation.
