In Bihar, by March 2024, about eight thousand 76 km length of rural roads will be repaired and made better. The Rural Works Department has selected such roads in all the 38 districts of the state. All these roads are at least 10 years old. After the construction of all these roads, the responsibility of the contractors regarding their maintenance was over.

Junior engineers will also be responsible

These roads were in bad condition at many places. In such a situation, now again contractors will be selected through tenders to repair and maintain the roads in a better way. Along with this, it will be the responsibility of the junior engineers to make the report along with the photo available to the headquarters after the roads are improved. Later, if any complaint is received on any road, the junior engineer will also be responsible.

Preparation to improve bad rural roads

According to sources, the Rural Works Department has started preparations to improve the bad rural roads along with the construction of new rural roads in the state. Instructions have been given from the headquarters level to complete most of the work quickly before the monsoon. In such a situation, under the Bihar Rural Road Maintenance Policy 2018, work has been started on an action plan to maintain the roads in a better way.

Roads have been repaired in about 21 thousand km

From April 2018 to February 2023, approval was given to repair rural roads in a length of about 29 thousand 62 km. Under this, about 10 thousand 328 roads were selected. Its estimated cost was around Rs 12 thousand 349 crore. Out of this, about 20 thousand 986 km length of roads have been repaired at an estimated cost of about four thousand five hundred and seventy crore rupees.
