A unified Gulf policy for the purchase of food commodities

Qatar Chamber participated in the consultative meeting between the ministers of commerce of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and the chairmen of the councils of federations and chambers of commerce and industry in the GCC countries, which was held in Muscat. The second is for the Chairman of the Board of Directors, and His Excellency Mr. Muhammad bin Mahdi Al-Ahbabi, Member of the Board of Directors.
During the meeting, His Excellency Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani, Chairman of Qatar Chamber, raised the issue of the supply chain crisis and its effects on the GCC countries in terms of food shortages and high prices. His Excellency said that the GCC countries have faced and are still facing global challenges, starting with the Covid-19 pandemic, the container crisis and the Russian war. Ukrainian and the repercussions that led to the rise in the prices of grains, fertilizers and medicines and the delay in supply chains and its impact on Gulf food security, pointing to the need to form a permanent emergency crisis committee with the preparation of a strategy to search for import alternatives with the importance of finding a unified policy for the unified purchase of strategic food and drug commodities and providing encouraging investment incentives for investors Gulf.
He called on the food security committee formed by the Agricultural Cooperation Committee of the General Secretariat of the Cooperation Council in the year 2022 AD, to expedite finding practical solutions to meet the challenges.
