Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, State Congress President D.K. Shivakumar, senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah and former Union minister K.H. Muniyappa is among the prominent leaders who have been declared victorious by the Election Commission on Saturday. Janata Dal (Secular) leader and former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy is leading in Channapatna seat.

Riding on the anti-incumbency wave against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Congress on Saturday secured a clear majority in Karnataka. According to the results declared till 6 pm, it has won 123 seats in the 224-member assembly, while it is leading in 13 seats. If it wins the leading seat as well, then it can reach the figure of 136.

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Saturday won the Shiggaon constituency in Haveri district for the fourth consecutive term by defeating his nearest rival Yasir Ahmed Khan Pathan of the Congress by a margin of 35,341 votes. State Congress president Shivakumar has fielded his nearest rival JD(S) candidate B.K. Nagaraju by a huge margin of 1,22,392 votes, while former Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara won the Koratagere seat by a margin of 14,347 votes.

Senior Congress leader and seven-time MP Muniyappa won the Devanahalli seat from JD(S)’s N. Narayanaswamy by 4,631 votes. Muniyappa has contested the assembly elections for the first time. Kumaraswamy’s brother H.D. Revanna won the Holenarasipura seat by a margin of 3,152 votes. Janata Dal (Secular) leader Swaroop Prakash wrested the seat from the BJP by winning the Hassan seat.
