ISSF World Cup: Indian pair of Divya and Sarabjot won gold medal in 10 meter air pistol shooting

Divya Subbaraju Thadigol And Sarabjot Singh The Indian pair of has won the gold medal in the 10m air pistol mixed team event at the ISSF Shooting World Cup on Thursday. Earlier, the Indian pair, who had finished second in the World Cup stage in Cairo and Bhopal, defeated the Serbian pair of Zorana Arunovic and Damir Mikec 16-14 in the gold medal match.

Indian pair ahead of 55 teams

On the second day of the competition, the Indian pair topped the qualification of 55 teams with a score of 581 to make it to the gold medal match and ensure a medal. The score of three pairs was 581 in the qualification but Divya and Sarabjot shot 24 inside 10 points to finish on top. The pair of Damir and Zorana came second with 19 hits in the 10-point inside while the Turkish pair came third with 16 hits.

The Indian pair took an early lead

The Indian pair started the final with two identical scores of 10.5 points in the first series to take a 2-0 lead. However, after its 13 series, both the pairs were tied at 14-14. The title was to be awarded to the winner of the fifteenth series. Sarabjot started with a brilliant score of 10.6 while Divya scored 9.9. Damir raised hopes of the Serbian pair with 10.3 points but Zorana could manage only 8.6 points, which helped the Indian pair to win the gold medal.

Sarabjot’s second gold medal

Sarabjot won the gold medal in the second consecutive ISSF World Cup. Earlier in March, he had won the individual air pistol gold medal in Bhopal. This is Divya’s first medal in the senior category at this level. The Turkish pair of Simal Yilmaz and Ismail Keles won the bronze medal by defeating the Italian pair of Sara Costantino and Paulo Mona 17-9.

India is second in the medal tally

India is running at the second position in the medal tally with one gold and one bronze medal. China has one gold and one silver medal. Earlier on Wednesday, Rhythm Sangwan opened India’s medal account in the competition with a bronze medal in the women’s 10m air pistol event. The rhythm shot 219.1 to finish third behind two-time Olympic champion gold medalist Anna Korakaki of Greece and silver medalist Olena Kostevich of Ukraine. This is Rhythm’s first senior individual medal in the World Cup.
