Unseasonal rain wreaks havoc in Junagadh: rickshaw full of laborers washed away in swollen river, three died

Junagadh/Ahmedabad, May 3 (Hindustan Times). Flood caused by unseasonal rains in the river of Chudwa village in Manavdar of Junagadh district claimed the lives of 3 women. Among them are mother-daughter and another woman, who had gone to work in the fields at that time. His fellow 9 workers have been saved. The body of one of the three women was recovered late last night while the bodies of two others were recovered on Wednesday.

Unseasonal rains have also been lashing the state for the past few days amid scorching heat. The river in Chudwa village of Manavadar got flooded due to heavy rains. Meanwhile, on Tuesday evening, a rickshaw full of 12 laborers of Lath village, who had come to work in the fields between Chhatrasa and Chudwa village, was swept away in the strong current of the river. As soon as the information about the incident was received, the fire brigade along with the people around reached the spot. During the relief and rescue operations, 9 out of 12 workers on board the rickshaw were rescued while 3 were not traced.

The local administration team, including the fire brigade, was engaged in the search till late night. After the body of one woman was recovered late at night, the bodies of the remaining two women were recovered on Wednesday. All are said to be residents of Latha village of Upleta. The dead are Shantaben Rathod (60), Sanjanaben Solanki (18) and Bhartiben Solanki (40).
