Target to make 121 airports of the country carbon free by 2025: Scindia

New Delhi, 20 April (Hindustan). Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said that 25 airports in the country are using 100 per cent green energy. Another 121 airports in the country will also achieve the target of zero carbon emissions by 2025.

Jyotiraditya Scindia said this while addressing the two-day ‘European Union-India Aviation Summit’ through video conferencing here on Thursday. Actually, Civil Aviation Minister Scindia could not be directly present in this conference due to being infected with Corona. Scindia said that the contribution of the aviation industry in carbon emissions is being closely monitored. We have taken a number of steps to reduce and offset carbon emissions from the aviation industry.

Scindia said that ‘we are motivating our airports to use green energy by the year 2024 and to achieve the target of zero carbon emission by 2030. He said that 25 airports in India are using 100 per cent green energy. We aim to have another 121 airports achieve net zero by 2025.

It is noteworthy that the two-day summit will discuss the air transport relationship between the EU and India and the mutually shared challenges and opportunities in the two sectors. The conference will be attended by top-level policy makers from the EU and India, as well as industry officials and stakeholders.
