New Delhi| A team of Kerala Police on Wednesday arrived at Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh to investigate the residence of Shahrukh Saifi, the prime suspect in the recent Kerala train fire incident. Saifi was caught from Ratnagiri in Maharashtra on Tuesday.

Sources revealed that Saifi was arrested during a joint operation carried out by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad and central intelligence agencies. The suspect reportedly suffered facial and head injuries and sought medical treatment at a hospital in Ratnagiri.

A Kerala Police team was also present in Ratnagiri to investigate the matter. Three passengers including a child were killed in the incident. These passengers had jumped from the moving train in an attempt to escape the fire. Nine other passengers sustained burn injuries when the Alappuzha-Kannur Express train caught fire at around 9:45 pm on Sunday, April 2. Saifi is accused of sprinkling petrol on commuters and setting them on fire when they reached near the Korapuzha bridge between Kozhikode and Kannur.
