Punjab Police on Thursday deployed drones in a village in Hoshiarpur district as part of an operation to nab separatist Amritpal Singh, where some suspects abandoned their car two days ago after being chased by the police.

According to sources, police personnel deployed in and around Marnain village are also checking vehicles in search of radical Amritpal. The police resumed their search operation in the area and deployed a drone in the village. However, there is no official comment from the police department on this. Paramilitary personnel have also been deployed in and around Marnain village. Earlier, the Punjab Police had launched a massive search operation in this village of Hoshiarpur and several areas around it. The police had received intelligence that Singh and his associates could be in the area.

The Hoshiarpur crackdown began after the police chased a car on Tuesday night, which some sources said was suspected to be carrying Amritpal Singh and his associates. They disappeared leaving the vehicle in the village.

The police has also launched a house-to-house search operation but no success has been achieved so far. Amritpal and his associates had stormed the Ajnala police station near Amritsar, demanding the release of an arrested person. About three weeks after the incident, on March 18, the police started action against him and members of his pro-Khalistan organization ‘Waris Punjab De’. Amritpal is absconding since then. He had escaped from Jalandhar district on March 18. Several videos and photographs have surfaced on social media, purportedly showing him in different areas.

Meanwhile in a latest video, Amritpal Singh is seen urging the Jathedar of Akal Takht to hold a ‘Sarbat Khalsa’ (a conference to discuss issues related to the Sikh community). Amritpal asked the community members to participate in large numbers.

In his appeal, he said, “If we have to save the youth and Punjab, we should become a part of the Sarbat Khalsa. We know the path we are on, we have to face it all. It is our duty to raise our voice against it.
