Former Indian Premier League (IPL) chief Lalit Modi, accused of financial irregularities in India, on Thursday launched a scathing attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and threatened to sue him in a UK court for his ‘Modi surname’ remark.

Lalit Modi (59) also hit out at the Congress party for calling him a “fugitive” despite not being convicted of any charge so far. In a series of tweets, Lalit Modi described himself as the man behind the “biggest sporting event in the world”, claiming that it has generated $100 billion.

Lalit posted pictures of his grandparents, saying that his family has contributed more to India than the Gandhi family. Lalit said in a tweet, “I see almost every Tom, Dick and Gandhi colleague repeatedly saying that I am a fugitive. Why? How? And when was I blamed for it.

Lalit said, “I am not like Pappu aka Rahul Gandhi, a common citizen and saying that it seems the opposition leaders have nothing to do. They either have wrong information or they keep speaking with a sense of revenge. “He said,” I have decided to go to UK court against Rahul Gandhi. I am sure he will come up with some concrete evidence. I look forward to seeing him become a complete fool.” Lalit Modi’s attack on former Congress president Rahul Gandhi comes days after he was convicted in a criminal defamation case over his ‘Modi surname’ remark. and was sentenced to two years.

Following the conviction, Gandhi was disqualified for membership of the Lok Sabha.

In a tweet, Lalit Modi accused several Congress leaders of “raising funds” for the Gandhi family and of having “assets abroad”. Lalit also claimed that he can provide more details in this regard.

Lalit said, “It has not been proved that I have taken a single penny in the last 15 years. It has definitely been proved that I have prepared the world’s biggest sports event which has earned about 100 billion dollars.

“The Congress leader should not forget that since the early 1950s, the (Lalit) Modi family has done more for him and for his country than he could ever imagine,” Lalit said.

He said, “I have done more than they can imagine. So keep barking you scamsters of India….” Lalit, who has been living in Britain since 2010, claimed that he would return to India as soon as tougher defamation laws are passed in the country.
