Ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s aggressive stand on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s recent statement about Indian democracy and Parliament and Congress’s breach of privilege notice against Leader of the House Piyush Goyal has led to an uproar between the ruling party and the opposition. Due to this, there was a deadlock in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday as well.

Zero Hour and Question Hour could not be held in the Upper House due to uproar by the ruling and opposition members and the meeting was adjourned for the whole day at 2.50 pm after a one-time adjournment. On Monday also there was a deadlock in the Upper House on the same issue.

Without naming Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the House Piyush Goyal said that the subject on which he is speaking is a very serious matter. He said that the way the Parliament has been defamed and the pride of the country has been hurt, that leader should come to the House and apologize.

Goyal said that a leader of the opposition had gone to a foreign land and said “vile things” about the Parliament. He said that this statement of an opposition leader has come at a time when India has got the presidency of G20 and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership is being discussed all over the world.

He said that even Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni said that Prime Minister Modi is the most popular leader in the world and the whole world is looking at him with fascination that he can help solve the world’s problems. The Leader of the House requested the Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar to direct the concerned leader to come to the House and apologize.

Congress’s Shakti Singh Gohil said that what the Leader of the House said here is for a member of the Lok Sabha. Gohil said that he has also given a breach of privilege notice in this regard, in which reference has been made to many such cases in the past. He said that even if no one’s name has been taken, but a member of the Lok Sabha cannot be mentioned in general in this House.

On this, Chairman Dhankhar said that yesterday the Leader of the House had raised a topic on which he considered. He said that he got the opportunity to discuss with the Leader of the Opposition and several senior members of the House today. He said that today another meeting is going to be held in this regard at 2.30 pm.

Dhankhar said that Congress member Gohil has sent a communication (notice) to him. He said that the concept of this dialogue is very well prepared but it does not correctly indicate the real situation. He said that Gohil has been asked to provide facts related to it.

He said that he will give his arrangement in this regard as soon as possible and it may be heard today or tomorrow. According to Congress sources, party MP Shaktisinh Gohil on Tuesday served a breach of privilege notice against Leader of the House Goyal, alleging that Goyal violated the rules and procedures of the Upper House by leveling allegations against a member of the Lok Sabha.
