A Delhi court on Wednesday convicted Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and former Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, his wife and former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi and their daughter Misa Bharti in a case related to the alleged land-for-jobs scam. Gave bail

Yadav (74) had recently undergone a kidney transplant. He was seen on a ‘wheel chair’ in the court premises. Lalu reached the Rouse Avenue court at around 10 am. However, the hearing of the case started late.

The three family members appeared before Justice Gitanjali Goel at around 11 am. The court granted bail to Lalu Prasad Yadav, Rabri Devi and her daughter Misa Bharti on a personal bond of Rs 50,000 each and surety of like amount.

The case pertains to appointments made in the Railways in lieu of land allegedly gifted or sold to Lalu’s family when Prasad was Railway Minister between 2004 and 2009.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in its charge sheet stated that the appointments were made in the Railways in violation of the laid down norms and procedures of the Indian Railways. It also alleges that the candidates, directly or through their close relatives and family members, sold land to the family members of RJD chief and then Railway Minister Lalu Prasad at much lower than market rates in exchange for jobs.

Special Judge Gitanjali Goel had on February 27 issued summons to all the accused, including Prasad’s daughter Misa Bharti, and directed them to appear before the court on March 15.
