The central government has asked power companies to ensure that there is no power cut during the summer season. He also asked all the stakeholders to take steps to meet the increasing demand of power.

Union Power Minister RK Singh held a review meeting with senior officials of the Ministries of Power, Coal and Railways on March 7, in which various aspects including meeting the high demand of power in the coming season were discussed.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Power, it was said that the Power Minister has asked the power companies to ensure that there is no power cut during the summer season. He has also asked all the stakeholders to closely monitor the situation and take pre-emptive steps to meet the power demand in the coming months.

He also asked the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) to put in place a fair and transparent system for allocation of coal to various States/UTs. The authority estimates that the peak demand for electricity this year could be 229 GW in April.
