Self-prejudice misses out on leadership opportunities for women professionals

A significant proportion of women professionals in the social sector miss out on leadership opportunities because of a self-limiting bias. This information has been received from a report.

In a recent survey by India Leaders for Social Sector (ILSS), more than 50 per cent women with eight to 15 years of experience in the social sector say they sometimes feel stifled by prejudice about themselves. The self-limiting bias often comes from the social and cultural environment in women. This creates a feeling of inferiority in them.

The report states that such a perception leads women to self-limiting behaviour. This often leads women away from their potential, talents, opportunities and goals which can hinder one’s career.

The survey, conducted with a select group of women professionals in the social sector, is not based on sample size. Anu Prasad, Founder and CEO, ILSS, said, “There is a need to create a favorable path for women to reach leadership roles. With this, they will be able to break their limits and move forward to make a successful career.
