Electronic waste in Delhi will no longer get environment clearance under white category

The Delhi government will no longer give environmental permission under the white category to e-waste collectors. The government has declared the e-waste handling as zero under the white category. Along with this, the permission given till now to the collectors of e-waste under the white category has also been cancelled.

A Delhi government official said that industries have been divided into Red, Green, Orange and White categories. The process of applying for permission to set up and run an industry under the white category is very simple. The entrepreneurs only have to give in writing that they are associated with the industry falling under the white category. On the basis of this written letter, the entrepreneurs automatically get the necessary permission from the Delhi Pollution Control Committee.

Pollution-free industries come in the white category. Till now the entrepreneurs doing E-waste handling (Electrical and Electronics Equipments Collection, Segregation and Storage) in Delhi were taking permission from DPCC to do this work by applying under the white category. But now DPCC has declared E-waste as null and void under white category. Due to which now no e-waste collector will be allowed under white category.

Those who have got permission will also be canceled

DPCC will no longer allow e-waste handling entrepreneurs under the white category. Also, the e-waste collectors who have got permission under the white category will also be considered cancelled. E-waste will be included in some other category. It is more likely to be included in the Orange category. On joining this category, the entire paperwork process will have to be completed to get DPCC permission and it will also have to be renewed after a stipulated period.
