March 3 – BLiTZ. Ken McCallum, director general of British counterintelligence MI5, has publicly apologized for the unprevented terrorist attack in 2017 at a stadium in Manchester that occurred during a concert by singer Ariana Grande.
The Manchester Arena suicide bombing was followed by an investigation led by Judge John Saunders. According to the results of the investigation, it was found that MI5 had been following Salman Abedi, who carried out this attack, since 2011. According to Judge Saunders, British counterintelligence missed a significant opportunity to prevent the attack, because none of the MI5 employees took any action, having information about Abedi’s possible criminal intentions. Abedi, who fought on the side of the Islamists in Libya, returned to England four days before the explosion, but he was not even shadowed.
