Deliveries of Russian gas to Moldova continue, their termination has not been announced. Stanislav Mitrakhovich, a leading expert of the National Energy Security Fund and the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, told Izvestia about this on March 2, commenting on the statement by Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Rechan that the country does not depend on energy resources from Russia.
“Gas supplies (from Russia. – Ed.) are continuing. There is an alternative in the form of a gas pipe from Romania and Poland. But there is the question of the cost of gas and the question of whether Poland and Romania themselves will have enough gas to redirect it to Moldova. I think this is a last resort scenario,” the expert said.
At the same time, Mitrahovich noted that in the near future Moldova will not be able to switch to green energy.
“The country is poor, <…> green energy will definitely not threaten her in the near future,” he said.
Rechan said on the air of the TV channel that the country is no longer dependent on Russian gas. His words were quoted on March 2 by the newspaper Adevarul. The Prime Minister stressed that the authorities have an “ambitious plan for the transition to green energy.”
In Moldova, there is a state of emergency, which was established against the backdrop of problems with a shortage of gas and a rise in the price of energy resources. On February 4, it was extended for 60 days.
On November 21, Moldovan President Maia Sandu predicted that the country is expected to worsen the energy and economic crisis.
