In recent years, American series and productions have stood out, due to their subject matter and even issues such as production. Although it was released in 2017, the series The Chosen, directed by Dallas Jenkins, has gained viewers around the world.

The plot takes place in ancient Judea, specifically following in the footsteps of Jesus; however this series doesn’t do so in the old way, as it shows Christ in a jovial and mature way, without losing his divine side. One of the curiosities of the production is that it is the first of its kind to be divided into seasons.

The Chosen Press Center explained more about the series concept: “The Chosen is a groundbreaking historical drama based on the life of Jesus (Jonathan Roumie), seen through the eyes of those who knew him. Set against the backdrop of Roman oppression in first-century Israel, the seven-season series shares an authentic and intimate look at Jesus’ revolutionary life and teachings”.

Although it addresses issues of Christianity, some viewers are not familiar with this type of content, but have been attracted by the way the story unfolds and the way the resources serve to understand Jewish culture.

The first season showed the beginnings of Jesus and how he slowly impacted those who knew him, whether through miracles or teachings. The second season maintained the same line, while in the third the maturity of the disciples was more evident. The fourth season, released during 2024 in theaters in various countries, emphasized inexplicable situations such as miracles and even the difficulties that began for Jesus and his group.

During 2025, the same production company 5&2 mentioned through the official website that the fifth season will reach theaters in more than 40 countries around the world. The new installment will delve into Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem and the way in which the panorama becomes sad and even uncertain, since the events precede the Crucifixion.

The fifth season, which is about to premiere, will show the week of Easter and moments that will shape Jesus’ last hours on earth. From November 2024, the 5&2 press center and the actors expressed that things will change course because there will be heartbreaking episodes that will undoubtedly be defining, since friendship will be at risk as will the security that Jesus and those around him had until then.

The Chosen is expected to end in 2027 with the seventh season, which will deal with the resurrection of Jesus. Meanwhile, the world premiere date for the fifth season will be April 10, through theaters. It must be said that in Asia, especially in India, the Philippines and South Korea, they have been attracted by the development of this drama. Even some Hindus have been moved by the chapters, despite ideological differences.

The production has also captivated people from nations such as South Africa, Zimbabwe and Morocco.  Recently, the series even had its official launch in Manila and Mumbai, where the actors were welcomed by many fans.
