As decades ago, Abraham Lincoln said, “You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time” – people occupying cozy chairs at the Press Section of Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor of the revolutionary regime in Bangladesh seem to have either forgotten it or intentionally doing something that would destroy remaining image of the Nobel laureate. To my knowledge, Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to Yunus was bureau chief of AFP, hours before he joined the current portfolio, where he was running “fact-checking” activities under his direct command. As he possibly has left his position at AFP, a question may arise – who now will check his own fact, where misleading, if not false information is being systematically catered with purposes best known to Alam?
In a surprising turn of events, the press wing of the “Government of Bangladesh” erroneously issued a statement claiming that the Chief Adviser attended the G20 Social Summit in Rio de Janeiro. The statement suggested that he delivered a powerful address urging global leaders to pursue a “World of Three Zeros” – a vision of eliminating poverty, unemployment, and net carbon emissions.
Almost simultaneously, Bangladesh’s leading news wire service BDNews24 in a report titled – ‘Interim PM Yunus calls for ‘World of Three Zeroes’ at G20 social summit, stated “Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus has called on global leaders to work towards building a “World of Three Zeroes” – a world free of poverty, unemployment, and net carbon emission …”.
Surprisingly, BDNEWS attempted to possibly shift the official designation of “Chief Advisor” to “Interim PM” with the notorious agenda of granting him indefinite time to remain in the office. How can anyone become “interim PM”, when the parliament is dissolved? Was it a mere typos or mistake or something done with an agenda that the nation is yet to know? If there is a hidden agenda, we have the right to ask – who had suggested BDNews use the terminology “interim PM”?
According to official website of G20 Summit, the G20 Leaders’ Summit is scheduled for November 18 and 19, 2024, in Rio de Janeiro, with the presence of the leaders of the 19 member countries, plus the African Union and the European Union.
The photograph shared by the office of the Chief Advisor on the official ‘X’ handle is from an event that took place in Dhaka, which has nothing to do with the G20 Summit. Most importantly, the person who heads that organization that organized the Dhaka event is a branded ally of the Biden-Kamala administration and an active collaborator of the Deep State, including Donald Lu.
In this case, can we ask – why was the information twisted by Shafiqul Alam? Wasn’t it disinformation and tantamount to peddling fake news? Such a significant communication blunder not only jeopardizes the credibility of the press wing but also risks tarnishing Bangladesh’s reputation on the global stage. This misstep serves as a stark reminder of the critical importance of accuracy and professionalism in representing a nation’s leadership.
One may believe, Shafiqul Alam is a skilled journalist with appropriate knowledge on information and disinformation. Why has he committed this blunder? Or, is it because of his bias? Has he been also using AFP as a mere propaganda vessel to serve any particular agenda? Shall French people now ask President Emmanuel Macron – why has he been using taxpayer’s money towards an agenda that does not serve the interest of the country?
