In recent years, there has been a notable surge in the number of Bangladeshi students seeking higher education opportunities abroad. However, despite the growing trend, many Bangladeshi students face challenges such as high study fees and language barriers, limiting their options primarily to Western countries like the US, UK, Canada, and Australia. Yet, amidst these challenges lies a hidden gem often overlooked: Russian universities.

According to the latest UNESCO data, a total of 52,799 Bangladeshi students went abroad for study in 2023, with the highest number of 8,524 students going to the US, followed by 6,586 to the UK, 5,835 to Canada, 5,714 to Malaysia, 5,046 to Germany, 4,987 to Australia, 2,082 to Japan, 2,606 to India, 1,202 to the Koreas republic, and 1,190 to Saudi Arabia.

From Pakistan, a total of 71,865 students went abroad for higher studies. Of them, 12,932 went to the UK, 9,472 to Australia, 7,498 to Kyrgyzstan, 7,133 to the US, and 6,260 to Germany.

However, there are compelling reasons why prospective Bangladeshi students should consider Russia as a viable destination for higher education.

Meanwhile, according to the Center for Strategic Studies and Research (CSSR), the number of Bangladeshi students getting admitted in colleges and universities in Hong Kong SAR as well as the People’s Republic of China is on steady rise, where hundreds of students are studying in various faculties, including Artificial Intelligence, a field where China is dominating in the world.

It further said, three or four decades ago, the flow of Bangladeshi students studying in college and universities in Russia were though substantially increasing, during the past decades it is decreasing gradually, mostly because local students do not find proper information and communication source for contacting college and universities in Russian Federation.

For the prospective students from Bangladesh, who might be willing to get admitted in college and universities in Russia, certain information is being provided which may help them.
