On February 15, Bangladesh plans to repatriate a group of 330 individuals, consisting of Myanmar military personnel and other officials, who sought refuge in Bangladesh amidst ongoing conflict in Myanmar.

Shariful Islam, the public relations officer of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), confirmed this decision. The repatriation process is scheduled to commence at 8:00 am, with the officials being handed over to Myanmar authorities at the Naval Jetty Ghat in Inani, Cox’s Bazar. They will return to Myanmar via ship.

The exodus of Myanmar officials to Bangladesh began amid intense clashes between the junta forces and the Arakan Army rebel group since February 4. The individuals seeking shelter include members from various agencies such as the Border Guard Police, Army, immigration, and police.

Tragically, during this period, a Bangladeshi woman and a Rohingya man lost their lives due to a mortar shell explosion originating from Myanmar in Bandarban’s Ghumdhum union.
