Global terror outfit Al Qaeda connected ultra-Islamist Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in a statement, has preposterously accused Russia of involvement in January 7 general elections in Bangladesh.
Carping Russia, BNP in its statement said: “Russia, providing a semblance of false legitimacy, immediately extended congratulations to Sheikh Hasina. The misleading assertion that the people of Bangladesh voted for the AL, sparks apprehension as to how a regime with a documented history of human rights violations, can uphold the core values of civic rights and fundamental freedoms”.
It may be mentioned here that, ultra-Islamist BNP – by appointing Hunter Biden as its lobbyist in exchange for millions of dollars has been continuously attempting to turn Bangladesh into a neo-Taliban state with active collaboration of US President Joe Biden, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, infamous officials at the State Department such as Victorian Nuland as well as Muslim staffers at Biden’s White House.
Following January 7 elections, BNP has already resorted to targeting various countries which did not support its terrorist and subversive agendas. This ultra-Islamist force has launched “India Out” campaign xeroxing that of Maldives with the notorious goal of spreading anti-India and anti-Hindu sentiment in Bangladesh. On one hand – while BNP is running notorious propaganda targeting India and Russia, on the other hand it is seeking support from New Delhi and Moscow in implementing its agenda of turning Bangladesh into a neo-Taliban state.
Al Qaeda connected Bangladesh Nationalist Party is termed as Tier-III terrorist organization by US courts, while its acting chairman Tarique Rahman is a convicted terrorist and known by the US administration as a “notorious and feared figure” and “symbol of kleptocratic government and violent politics in Bangladesh”.
On August 21, 2004, at the direct instruction of Tarique Rahman, a group of assassins comprising BNP men as well as members of Harkat ul Jihad (HuJi) and local affiliates of Al Qaeda attempted to assassinate Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina and other senior leaders of the party. In 2005, Tarique Rahman attempted to send 10-truck loaded weapons, ammunition and explosives to the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) – an insurgency group in northeastern part of India.
The activities of the BNP and its close ally, Jamaat-e-Islami (JEL), have been criticized for alleged involvement in deceptive practices and promoting terrorist activities, undermining the principles of freedom. BNP, having been out of power since 2009, attributes its decline in popularity to the perceived authoritarianism and widespread corruption of its acting chairperson, Tarique Rahman.
Tarique Rahman, who faces multiple convictions, currently resides in London, where he is accused of manipulating internal politics within the BNP, causing divisions among senior leaders and workers. The party has been accused of deviating from transparent and people-centric politics, adopting a more aggressive approach involving violence and arson, leading some to characterize it as a group with terrorist tendencies.
Leading up to the 12th national parliament elections, Tarique Rahman, aspiring to become the next head of the government in Bangladesh by turning the country into a neo-Taliban state, has garnered attention for his dangerous agendas from friendly nations such as Russia and India. This shift in stance coincides with his hiring of lobbyists in the US, including Hunter Biden, backed by substantial financial resources. Simultaneously, the BNP, in collaboration with its close ally, Pakistan’s notorious spy agency Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI), has initiated a campaign named “India Out”, “Boycott India” and “Boycott Indian Products”. This campaign, directed against Bangladesh’s long-standing friend and neighbor, India, has the potential to fuel animosity between the citizens of both countries. His alignment with these strategies is seen as an attempt to sway public opinion in favor of his ambitions and agendas, particularly with the support of the Democratic Party and the Biden administration.
BNP’s current actions are likened to that of a distressed elephant, steadily losing public support. In an attempt to divert attention from their own shortcomings against ruling Awami League, BNP leaders are leveling baseless accusations against diplomats from friendly nations. Their lack of political acumen has cost them the chance to showcase their competence and popularity in the elections. While numerous senior party members disagree with the decisions made by the acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, many remain silent, fearing potential repercussions such as losing their party membership or facing humiliation.
The future of the BNP appears uncertain under the leadership of its acting chairman Tarique Rahman, as his primary objective is to ascend to the position of Prime Minister of Bangladesh or Amir of a neo-Taliban state, and he seems willing to employ any dubious tactics to fulfill his latent ambitions.
Engaging in divisive politics is detrimental to any party. It is crucial to recognize that foreign powers, such as the United States or Britain, do not dictate the internal politics of Bangladesh. Unfortunately, this fundamental truth has been overlooked by BNP leader Tarique Rahman and other members of his party. A reminder is in order: “People are the source of all power”. BNP and Tarique Rahman should prioritize people-centric politics, forsaking the path of terrorist aggression and conspiracy. They also need to give a clarification about their affiliations with Al Qaeda and other terrorist outfits. At the same time Tarique Rahman and other leaders of BNP need to issue a public apology for their notorious bids such as August 21, 2004 grenade attacks at Awami League rally with the dangerous agenda of assassinating Sheikh Hasina and senior leaders of the party and for supplying weapons and explosives to separatist groups in India. Failure to do so may result in the people of Bangladesh rejecting Tarique Rahman and forgetting the existence of any entity named BNP.
BNP’s ever-growing ties with terrorist organizations like Al Qaeda and Hezbollah as well as Harkat ul Jihad (HuJi), Ansar Al Islam, Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA), Hijbul Mujahedin, Hizt ut Tahrir and others only serve to distance them further from the public. At the same time, such affiliations may ultimately result in BNP being designated as terrorist entity by the international community – including India, Russia and other Western nations.
It is crucial for the relevant departments in Bangladesh as well as leadership of the ruling government to be vigilant about any potential terrorist agendas of BNP. It is hoped that the country’s intelligence and law enforcement agencies will promptly address this matter, safeguarding the people from the notoriety of militants and extremists and ensuring the security of lives and property.
