‘Attempt to get death sentence to the main accused’, CM Biren Singh

Police took suo moto cognizance of the video

Taking suo motu cognizance of the video, the police said last night that a case of kidnapping, gangrape and murder has been registered against unknown armed miscreants at Nongpok Sekmai police station in Thoubal district and all efforts are on to arrest the culprits at the earliest. An accused identified as 32-year-old Huirem Heradas Singh was arrested from Thoubal district and another person was also arrested following an overnight raid supervised by senior Indian Police Service officers.

Meitei community organization expressed anger

Influential organizations of the Meitei community. The Coordination Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) also issued a statement saying that it strongly condemned the “barbaric and uncivilized incident of parading naked in broad daylight in a remote village of Manipur to two women”. The statement said that COCOMI is making every effort to trace the accused, no matter where they are. The statement said, “The entire Meitei community is ashamed and angry over the video clip… COCOMI firmly believes that the Meitei community will not spare those involved in this heinous incident in any form and that all those involved in the crime will be suitably punished.”
