The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Huawei and other partners announced the launch of the “AI-based Manufacturing Global Alliance”, or what will later be known as the “AIM Global Alliance”, during the activities of the sixth edition of the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC), which concluded today in Shanghai, China.

In his speech at the opening of the event, Gerd Müller, Director-General of UNIDO, emphasized that the new alliance, which will be led by the organization, will integrate specialized partners from the public and private sectors and join their efforts to promote the use of artificial intelligence and develop innovations based on it in the field of manufacturing. “We have a shared responsibility to ensure that innovation in the field of artificial intelligence is developed in a safe, ethical, sustainable and inclusive manner,” he added, recognizing the vital future role of the alliance in bridging the digital divide between countries and industries, and ensuring that no one is left behind in the artificial intelligence revolution.

He added that the AIM Global Alliance aims to be a platform for cooperation, joint work, knowledge sharing and development of best practices. It will focus on key areas, the most important of which is facilitating research and development related to artificial intelligence technologies for industry and manufacturing, in addition to developing and strengthening the principles of ethical guidance for the use of artificial intelligence. UNIDO, with the help of this alliance, is also seeking to transfer recommendations on policies for the use of artificial intelligence in these areas to governments and international organizations with the aim of encouraging the development of national strategies on artificial intelligence. The alliance will also seek to support the adoption of best practices and experiences in the use of artificial intelligence for industrial and manufacturing purposes.
