In a tweet, Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said, “In a major breakthrough, Ludhiana Police busted an illegally running international call center and arrested 30 people of a gang who posed as technical service providers to multinational companies and duped citizens, mainly foreigners, of huge sums of money.”

Two women included in the arrested accused, 34 mobiles recovered

Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said that the arrested gang members are from Meghalaya, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Delhi and Punjab. Ludhiana Police Commissioner Mandeep Singh said that two women were also among those arrested. He said that 34 mobile phones and Rs 1,17,000 in cash along with several electronic gadgets were also recovered from the possession of the accused. Police said the gang members used to make calls to people from across the world and used to introduce themselves as customer support executives of top companies. Then they used to send an email to the customers in which a phone number was written.

Police Commissioner Mandeep Singh said, “When an unknown customer would call that number, the fraudsters would tell them that their mobile phone was hacked and all their banking information was at risk and they would ask them to share their bank information.” The accused then used to collect the information by sending a form to disclose the customer’s banking information, he said.

The age of the arrested accused is between 25 and 35 years.

Police said that during the investigation it was revealed that the age of all the arrested people is between 25 to 35 years and their educational qualification is up to 12th standard. It told that all those arrested are from different states and belong to poor families. Police said that the parents of most of them are laborers and the greed of earning easy money attracted them towards this.
