Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya on Thursday said that it is very important to deeply consider the issues of food grains and food security for global sustainable development. Creating an eco system under the One Health approach is an important responsibility of the food regulators. Balanced, safe and nutritious food ensures our health. Dr. Mandaviya was addressing the opening ceremony of the first Global Food Regulatory Summit 2023 held in New Delhi on Thursday.

Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Narendra Tomar, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Prof. SP Singh Baghel and Dr. Bharti Praveen Pawar were also present on the occasion. The summit is an effort by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), under the aegis of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, to provide a global platform for food regulators to exchange views on strengthening food safety systems and regulatory framework. can be prepared.

Dr. Mandaviya said that safe food and good health complement each other. Balanced, safe and nutritious food acts as preventive care and ensures our health. It is the highly responsible task of food regulators to create an eco system under One Health approach which provides an integrated platform to collectively look at climate, human, animal and plant health.

Highlighting the importance of international cooperation and solidarity for the well-being of the global community, Dr. Mandaviya said that the conference perfectly coincides with and complements the theme of India’s G20 Presidency this year, Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam – One Earth, One Nation.

Outlining the salient features of the recently announced PM-PRANAM scheme on the aspect of soil health, an important determinant of food health, Dr. Mandaviya said that the scheme encourages farmers to take up organic, natural and alternative farming. He urged all countries to work collectively in the spirit of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (the world is one family) as food scarcity is a global problem, requiring a collaborative global solution.

FSSAI CEO G Kamala Vardhan Rao said that safe and nutritious food is the key to good health, while unsafe food causes 600 million infections and 4.2 lakh deaths every year. The conference will deliberate on important aspects of food security and bring innovative solutions to ensure safe food supply.

It is noteworthy that the Global Food Regulators Summit 2023 brings together food regulators from around the world to exchange perspectives and knowledge on critical issues related to food safety systems. The global summit will have various technical sessions, which will focus on a number of topics such as the role and responsibilities of global food regulators, challenges and solutions for global food security, robust standard setting, innovation in food emergency response.
