Yamuna remained dirty even after spending 1697 crores in 9 years, RTI exposed the river’s cleaning campaigns

Agra. Under Namami Gange scheme Yamuna A total of Rs 1697 crore was spent in 4 states in the last 9 years to make Yamuna clean, but Yamuna still remains dirty. The expenditure on Yamuna has been revealed in the information sought through RTI by a young advocate from Maythura. Young advocate Devanshu Khandelwal told that more than 1600 crores were allocated in 9 years, but nothing is visible on the ground. Devanshu is preparing to file a case in the Mathura court soon for the demand of Yamuna purification.

1697 crores received by 4 states by 31 March 2023

Recently, Devanshu had filed an RTI regarding the purification of Yamuna. The Ministry of Jal Shakti was asked to know about the ongoing works and expenditure related to the cleaning of the Yamuna. In response to RTI, the Ministry has informed that under the National Mission for Namami Gange scheme, pollution of the Yamuna will be reduced from 2014-15 to March 31, 2023. 1697 crore rupees have been spent in 4 states to get rid of it.

More than 225.32 crores spent in Mathura itself

The National Mission for Clean Ganga has given Rs 3.75 crore to the Irrigation Department of Himachal Pradesh for Yamuna purification. 89.61 crore was spent by Haryana’s Public Health and Engineering Department, 1329.29 crore by Jal Board of Delhi and 225.32 crore on Hybrid Annuity Mod Project in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. Rs 9.52 crore has been spent by Mathura’s industrial area and pollution prevention. Young advocate Devanshu Khandelwal said that an amount of more than 1600 crores was allocated in 9 years, but nothing is visible on the ground.
