Nepal Haj Committee chairman Shamsher Miyan arrested in fake Bhutanese refugee case

Kathmandu, May 18 (Hindustan). Nepal Haj Committee chairman Shamsher Miyan has been arrested in the case of fake Bhutanese refugees. He was arrested from Kathmandu on Thursday.

Miyan had gone to the Ministry of Home Affairs to hand over the responsibility of the caretaker Haj Committee to someone else. He was arrested from there and taken to the Kathmandu District Police. Police has confirmed Miyan’s arrest. Police investigation revealed that Haj committee vehicle was used to make fake refugees.

Mian was appointed as the chairman of the Haj Committee in 2020 by the then Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa Badal. Mian remained the president even after Balkrishna Khand became the home minister. Nepal has a Haj Committee under the Ministry of Home Affairs to manage the Muslims who go to Saudi Arabia for Haj every year. So far 14 people including former Deputy Prime Minister Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, former Home Minister Balkrishna Khand, former MP Dr. Indrajit Rai, Angteva Sherpa have been arrested in the case of fake refugees.
