West Bengal: 9 people died in storm and rain, somewhere electric wires and somewhere trees became dead

Kolkata, May 16 (Hindustan Times). Cyclone Mocha in the Bay of Bengal lashed the coastal districts of West Bengal with thunderstorm and rain, claiming nine lives. While information about the injuries of many people has been received. In view of this, there is also a possibility of increase in the number of dead. During thunderstorms and rains, most of the people died due to electrocution or falling of tree branches.

Cyclone Mocha had a widespread impact in the coastal areas of the state. Confirming this on behalf of the sources of the State Disaster Management Department on Tuesday morning, it has been told that Khushbu Yadav (12 years), who was among the dead, was returning from PK Roy Lane of Howrah Shivpur late on Monday evening after studying tuition, at the same time the cyclone struck. He died after coming in contact with a fallen electric wire.

One person died in Kaushik Dhali’s park in Barrackpore of Ranaghat in Nadia district. Due to strong wind, the branch of the tree fell on the head of this person standing under the tree, due to which he died. Meanwhile, Saraswati Vishwas (40 years) died after being buried under a coconut tree in Barrackpore Mohanpur.

On the other hand, Rajni Pandey (42 years) died in Bagnan of Howrah. He took shelter under a tree during a storm. An old man named Ramchandra Mandal died in Bagnan. In addition, several people have been injured in Howrah district due to the storm.

Shyampur resident Prasun Ghoshal (19 years) died after coming in contact with the electric wire during the strong storm. While Ashraf Khan (50 years) died at Pashkura in Hooghly district after an electric pole fell during the storm. Apart from this, Sukant Mahato (63 years) died in Belpahari. An old woman named Malti Murmu lost her life due to the storm in Belpahari itself. Both died after being crushed by a tree branch.

Rail and flight services remained disrupted

Meanwhile, train services were disrupted in several districts of South Bengal including Kolkata due to monsoon. Flight services at Dum Dum International Airport were also disrupted for some time.

Fear of increasing the death toll

According to Meteorological Department sources, the Kalbaisakhi storm started moving at a maximum speed of 84 km at 5:41 pm on Monday. This storm lasted for a total of three minutes. Till 6 in the evening, the wind speed of 62 km per hour was blowing in Dum Dum area. During this time these people have died. Sources in the State Disaster Management Department have told that the death toll may increase.
