Surat: Meeting of representatives of Russian Federation Sakha Republic held at GJEPC office

GJEPC – Surat Office organized a business meeting with the delegation of Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) – Russian Federation. The delegation was led by H.E. Kim Borisov did it. A delegation of 7 ministers from the Government of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) visited Surat to explore stronger bilateral trade ties with the 2 countries. Assistant Director GJEPC briefed about GJEPC and its various activities to promote export of Gem & Jewelers products from India.

Vijay Mangukia Regional President – Gujarat in his welcome address presented an overview of Surat’s diamond industry and how the city has maintained its unique leadership position in diamond cutting and polishing. He also apprised the delegation about the recent developments in the Gem & Jewelers industry of Surat. He told the delegation that now Surat is on its way to become the world leader in diamond jewelery manufacturing. Surat is also becoming a CVD type hub of LGD.

His Majesty Kim gave a brief introduction of his team and an overview of their area. He apprised the members that the Yakutia region has access to natural resources, adding that 90 percent of Russian diamonds are mined in Yakutia. Large fluctuations in weather are observed in this region and therefore Yakutia, despite its vast size and area, has a population of only 1 million people.

Ms. Yulianna E. Diryakhova (Deputy Director General of the Agency for Attracting Investment and Export Support of the Republic of Sakha) made a presentation on the Free Trade Zone of Yakutia, where she described the many benefits of investing in the Free Trade Zone. The major advantage is free access to Yakutia’s rough diamond resources through the new private sector company Sebim LLC. Members were encouraged to enter into a joint venture with SEBM to gain access to the ‘Diamond Cluster’ of Yakutia.

Members asked various questions on the Free Trade Area. The delegation also visited the Surat International Diamond-Trade Centre. The Assistant Director concluded the meeting with a vote of thanks.
