Ranchi: The remand period of former Ranchi Deputy Commissioner Chhavi Ranjan, arrested in the case of sale and purchase of land by forging documents, will end on May 16. Because of this, after presenting him in the court on Tuesday, there is a possibility of a request from the ED to extend the remand period.

On May 4, the ED summoned Chhavi Ranjan for the second time for questioning on charges of helping those who buy and sell land by forging documents. After questioning, he was arrested by the ED at 9:55 pm. Appeared in the court on May 5 and requested to be given remand, but due to holiday, the court fixed the date of May 6 for sending Chhavi Ranjan to judicial custody and hearing the issue of remand. After hearing on remand, the court ordered to be given on remand from May 7 to May 12. ED started questioning from May 7 after taking him on remand. Presented in the court on May 12 and demanded additional remand of six days. For this, it was argued by the ED that Chhavi Ranjan was hiding information.

Chhavi Ranjan is being interrogated in the light of the documents found in the investigation, the information obtained from the digital device and the information obtained from the interrogation of other accused. The court extended the police remand for four days to hear the ED’s argument. However, due to non-completion of ongoing interrogation on the basis of data obtained from documents and digital devices, a request is being made for further extension of the remand period at the time of appearance on May 16.
