IIM Kozhikode to set up think tank to help laborers and economically weaker sections

IIM Kozhikode: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM-K), Kozhikode, Kerala has announced the setting up of a think tank Center for Employment Relations and Labor Studies (CERLS) that will help bring about a change in the economic condition of workers and economically weaker sections. The Director of the Institute, Professor Debasish Chatterjee said that CERLS will be a center of excellence for building sustainable organizations through cooperative employment relationships.

The larger objective of this center will bring together ideas from fellow academics, thinkers, government and corporations to prevent informalization of formal jobs while supporting sustainable enterprises, Professor Debashis Chatterjee said in a statement issued by the institute. Additionally, the center will work closely with organizations to uphold fair labor standards. The statement said that CERLS will be headed by Manoranjan Dhal, professor in the field of human resource management at IIM-K.

First conference in January next year

Professor Manoranjan Dhal said in a statement that the increasing share of technology in work has created a huge difference in the quality of life among the working class people. CERLS is planning to organize a regular labor conference every year to deliberate on labor related issues in the country and its first conference will be held in January next year.
