Wholesale inflation came down to -0.92 percent in April

New Delhi, May 15 (Hindustan Times). Inflation based on Wholesale Price Index (WPI) has also declined after retail. The wholesale inflation rate has come down to a 34-month low of -0.92 per cent in April. Earlier in March it was 1.34 per cent, whereas in the month of April last year it was 15.38 per cent. This is the 11th consecutive month when the wholesale inflation rate has declined.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry said in the data released on Monday that the wholesale inflation rate has come down to a 34-month low of -0.92 per cent in April. Inflation based on WPI has declined for the 11th consecutive month, falling below zero. Wholesale inflation was 1.34 per cent in March, compared to 3.85 per cent in February. Earlier in June, 2020, the wholesale inflation rate was below zero at 1.81 per cent.

According to the ministry, wholesale inflation declined due to fall in the prices of food articles and fuel and electricity. According to the data, food inflation also came down to 3.54 per cent in April from 5.48 per cent in March. Similarly, inflation in the fuel and power sector declined to 0.93 per cent in April from 8.96 per cent in March. Inflation in manufactured products declined to minus 2.42 per cent in April, compared to 0.77 per cent in March. Retail inflation eased to an 18-month low of 4.70 per cent in April.
