If everything goes well, then in the next three years it will be possible to reach Kolkata from Delhi in just 17 hours through Varanasi Expressway. This will save a lot of time.

The journey from Varanasi to Kolkata through the Greenfield Expressway has been decided to be completed in 10 hours, while now the journey from Delhi to Kolkata can also be completed in 17 hours. Talking about the journey from Delhi to Varanasi, this journey of 10 hours has already been made possible through Purvanchal, Lucknow-Agra and Yamuna Expressways.

Target to complete the expressway by 2026

According to officials, the 3 thousand crore project of Varanasi-Kolkata Expressway is expected to be completed by the year 2026. It will reduce the distance from 690 kms to 610 kms and reduce the travel time by 6-7 hours.

Approval was received during this meeting

This proposed expressway was approved in the year 2021 in a meeting headed by the Union Secretary of Road Transport and Highways to connect major cities through highways to save time and cost. This expressway will pass through Mohania, Rohtas, Sasaram, Aurangabad, Gaya, Chatra, Hazaribagh, Ranchi, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Ramgarh, Howrah and other places.

Preliminary demarcation of land for expressway has been done – Divisional Commissioner

Divisional commissioner Kaushal Raj Sharma said that preliminary demarcation of land for the expressway has been done at Chandauli near Varanasi, but a detailed project report is awaited. Chandauli DM has been asked to complete it as soon as possible.

If we talk about the present, most of the traffic between Varanasi and Kolkata is through NH-19. Most part of NH-19 is six-lane. According to NHAI, this expressway will start from Ring Road of Varanasi and will meet on NH-16 in Howrah district of Bengal.
