The Surat Diamond Workers Union today petitioned the District Magistrate that the holiday declared in the diamond industry should also be given to the jewellers, their economic condition has further weakened.
Demand to give salary to Ratna artists
According to the Surat Diamond Workers Association, the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia has affected the import of rough in the diamond industry. On the other hand, excessive production was also done in many factories, due to which the situation of recession has arisen. In such a situation, the factory owners declare a holiday to save their financial loss. Due to holiday, the jewelers do not have to pay, which financially benefits the factory owner. But these days become very difficult for gem artists as they do not have any other source of income and suddenly such leave becomes a big financial loss for them.
Demand to implement Ratnadeep scheme
The Surat Diamond Workers Union has demanded that the fire of recession is visible once again in the diamond industry. A big question is arising regarding employment. Holiday has been declared in most of the factories. The factory owners are not giving any answer as to what will happen to the salaries of the gem artists and how their families will be taken care of during this holiday. That’s why a memorandum has been submitted to the District Magistrate that despite the holiday being declared, the salary of gem artists should be given. We also request the state government to implement the Ratnadeep Yojana as soon as possible so that the jewelers can get some relief from the financial crisis.
