Riverfront Development: Like Patna, river ghats will be developed in 16 other cities, recreational facilities will be developed

Patna. The Urban Development and Housing Department has planned to develop river ghats in 16 other cities like the capital Patna under River Front Development (RFD). Of these, river front development has been completed in Patna, Gopalganj and Muzaffarpur, while approval has been received for development work in two cities, Manihari and Saran of Katihar. DPR is being prepared for the development of river banks in Samastipur and Munger. Apart from this, feasibility study is being done for river front development in nine other cities. Footpaths, lights, parks and other recreational facilities will be developed around the rivers related to tourism in the identified cities.

River banks will be developed at a cost of 12 crores in Manihari, 10 crores in Saran

Departmental officials told that after completion of river front development work on 16 ghats of Patna, approval has been given for development work at three other ghats namely Naujar Ghat, Mahavir Ghat and Bhadra Ghat at a cost of 46.26 crores. Its tender is under process. Apart from this, Rs 12 crore has been approved for Manihari in Katihar, while the bank of Atal Manjhi Ghat built on Ghaghra river in Saran will be developed under river front at a cost of Rs 10 crore.

DPR prepared for Samastipur and Munger river front development

DPR is being prepared for river front development on six ghats under Budhi Gandak river in Samastipur and four ghats under Ganga river in Munger. Apart from these, nine other cities whose rivers have been planned to be developed under river front development include Bettiah, Madhubani, Vaishali, Kishanganj, Begusarai, Danapur, Purnia and Siwan.

15 feet wide pedestrian path developed along 16 ghats in Patna

Under the riverfront project, a 15 feet wide pedestrian path (promenade) has been developed along the banks of 16 ghats in a length of 5.7 km in Patna city. Beside it decorative street lamps, public toilets, benches and green cover facilities have been provided for a large number of people to sit. People roam around this beautiful resort, do yoga. Students of Patna University reach here to rest and study. Provision was made for Dolphin Information Center to develop it as a cultural center. This area also works to spread awareness about keeping the environment clean including stopping sewage.
