Speaking about the Australian tour, Indian women’s hockey Team captain Savita said, ‘India and Australia have enjoyed a healthy rivalry over the years. We beat them in the Tokyo Olympics and they beat us during the Birmingham Commonwealth Games last year. It is always a learning experience to play against a quality team like theirs and we are very excited about this tour.

Under Savita’s captaincy, the Indian team won a historic bronze medal at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games last year and also won the title at the FIH Nations Cup, which helped them automatically qualify for the next season of the FIH Hockey Pro League 2023-24. This year, the team has set a target of directly qualifying for the Paris Olympics by winning gold in the Hangzhou Asian Games.

The tour will boost the team’s confidence

Team captain Savita further said that ‘We believe that this tour will help us understand at what level we are and will help us analyze what changes we need to make in our tactical game ahead of the Asian Games. There is work to be done and of course, when you do well against a team like Australia, it boosts the morale and confidence of the team, especially some of the youngsters who have been included in the squad for this tour. .
