Ranchi, Rajesh Kumar: The Telecom Department (Ranchi and Patna) has taken strict action to curb cyber crime. The department has banned mobile sims taken on the basis of fake identity cards. So far in April and May 2023, more than 2.30 lakh mobile numbers of Jharkhand and Bihar have been closed. After getting information about taking SIM card on fake identity card, the department had sent a letter to the service provider mobile companies for action.

In fact, the facial analysis of SIM users was done using artificial intelligence and facial recognition powered solution in collaboration with the Center for Development of Advanced Computing. It was found that the face is the same, but the name was different and the SIM was taken by making a fake ID. A person has got 18 sim cards. All these SIM cards were taken on the basis of fake identity certificates. The identity proof of this person had a different photo and a different name. Facial data of total seven crore SIM customers of Jharkhand and Bihar were analysed. Whereas, the faces of more than 87 crore SIM users were analyzed across the country.

After the matter came to light, on the instructions of the telecom companies, the service provider mobile companies have blacklisted total 2904 Point of Sales of Jharkhand-Bihar. In preliminary investigation, they have been found involved in unethical activities while issuing SIM cards. Service provider companies have started legal action against such customers as well as Point of Sales.
