Chhattisgarh: ‘Liquor being sold illegally by PSU’, ED makes serious allegations against Baghel government

Allegedly happened in Chhattisgarh liquor scam After Saturday’s arrest of Anwar Dhebar, brother of Congress leader and Raipur mayor Ejaz Dhebar, in the case, the ED told the court that the state government’s (then chief) Enforcement Directorate probing the liquor scam alleged that Chhattisgarh’s state-owned Vali Marketing Company did not record in its books the supply of 40 lakh cases of country liquor by the distillers and sold it to the general public through its own sales at a price of Rs.3,880. per case without earning any revenue to the exchequer

No entry in the account of 40 lakh cases of liquor

According to investigation details obtained by The Indian Express, distillers allegedly supplied 40 lakh cases of country liquor to the Chhattisgarh State Marketing Corporation Limited (CSMCL) between April 2019 and June 2022, but these were not recorded in the company’s books . Further, these liquor bottles were allegedly pasted with fake holograms and sold through CSMCL outlets. The ED alleged, however, that the state did not receive any tax revenue on these as they were not in the books of CSMCL.

2,000 crore liquor scam, CM Baghel denied

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has denied all these allegations. Describing the ED as a “political agent of the BJP”, he said the central agency was being used to defame the state. ED officials, however, said that the scam could possibly be worth Rs 2,000 crore.
