New Delhi, May 10 (Hindustan Times). India and Canada have agreed to accelerate negotiations on increasing coordinated investment, exchange of information, movement of skilled workers, professionals and students. Both countries recognize that they have an important contribution in strengthening bilateral economic relations.

The 6th India-Canada Ministerial Dialogue on Trade and Investment took place in Canada on Wednesday. A joint statement was issued after the talks. The Commerce and Industry Ministry informed that Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Canada’s Minister for International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Enterprises and Economic Development Mary Ng emphasized the importance of a comprehensive trade agreement in the meeting.

According to the statement, Goyal and Ng also discussed ways to enhance cooperation in the areas of agricultural commodities, chemicals, green technology, infrastructure, vehicles, clean energy and electronics. Both sides agreed to step up dialogue on migration and mobility. Along with this, both the ministers agreed on the importance of coordination at the government level to enhance cooperation in the field of vital minerals.

Meanwhile, Mary Ng expressed Canada’s support for India’s chairmanship of the G-20 grouping. He supported the continuation of the priorities by India in the G-20 Trade and Investment Working Group. She indicated that she looked forward to attending the upcoming G-20 Trade and Investment Ministerial Meeting, scheduled to be held in India in August.

It is noteworthy that India has exported $ 3.8 billion to Canada during April-February in the financial year 2022-23, while it was $ 3.76 billion in the financial year 2021-22. Imports from Canada stood at $3.77 billion in the first 11 months of FY 2022-23 from $3.2 billion in FY 2021-22. In fact, India has a huge demand for important minerals like Lithium, Titanium, Vanadium, Cobalt, Nickel and Graphite.
