Than Singh, a resident of Kanol village of Nandanagar development block of Chamoli district, is trying to develop Ames farming as a means of employment by making it a means of his economy. At present, he has planted five hundred plants of Ames on his six drains of land, which are now bearing fruit, from which he is making juice and selling it in the market.

Than Singh used to work in a private company in Delhi before the Corona period. When he lost his job during the Corona period, he returned to his village. According to Than Singh, one day he was working in the field in his village, when he saw small fruits growing on a tree, he took one or two seeds and started chewing them, which were very sour. He thought of making chutney and drinking it by making juice, but his family members told him not to eat it, calling it poison. He didn’t agree on this and he collected these seeds and extracted their juice and got it tested at Delhi’s Agricultural Research Center. They got better results than expected.

Research has found that this juice can act as a panacea for many diseases. He returned and started extracting its juice and started feeding it to the people. At first people did not like its taste, but now after adding sugar and other spices to it, people have started liking it a lot. He told that he also got information about this from Horticulture Department along with Herbs Research Institute Mandal Gopeshwar. So that it can reach more and more people and it can be promoted as a beverage sold in the market.

Than Singh says that he has planted five hundred plants of Ames on six nali land in his village. Which are now starting to bear fruit. They say that there is a problem with its cultivation, which has not yet been resolved. That is, after planting five plants, only one plant can survive, the other four are destroyed, which is a big problem. Also, till now the product made of Ames in Uttarakhand has not got good recognition and publicity among the people in the form of beneficial properties, due to which it has not yet become a favorite drink or food item among the people.
