Gandhinagar / Ahmedabad, 07 May (Hindustan Times). The Gujarat government has always been ahead in worrying about the health of the children, the future of the country. The government has taken the initiative to check the health of the children in the schools and cure them through free treatment in case of minor to major ailments. In the last decade or so, the government made hundreds of children healthy by getting them treated for serious illness. Lakhs of children are screened every year under the School Arogya-National Child Health Programme. During the last year 2022-23, health check-up of 1.35 crore children was done.
Keeping in view the health of the children, in the year 1998, the Health Department of the State Government implemented the School Health Program. After this, in the year 2014, the Central Government started the National Child Health Program. As a result, from the year 2014, the school health program in Gujarat was known as School Health-Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (SH-RBSK). Under this programme, health check-up of 12.75 crore children of the state was done in the state from the year 2014 till now i.e. in total 9 years.
Kidney of 177, liver transplant of 26
In these, 01 lakh, 39 thousand, 368 children were treated and operated for heart related diseases. 17 thousand, 556 children were treated for kidney related diseases. Of these, kidney transplant was done for 177 children. 10 thousand, 860 children were treated for cancer related diseases. Liver transplant of 26 children, bone marrow transplant of 198 children, cochlear implant surgery of 2738 children were done. Apart from this, 6987 children were treated for club foot, 6064 children were treated for cleft lip-pellet.
Talking about the year 2022-23, during this one year, 17544 children were given heart related treatment. Apart from this, 724 children were treated for kidney, 337 children for cancer. Kidney of 13 children and liver of one child, Bonemarrow transplant of 10 children were done. Cochlear implant surgery was performed on 297 children. 952 children were treated for club foot, 315 children were treated for cleft lip-pellet.

Shahjahan Pathan, the mother of Shahnawaz Nasirkhan Pathan, who underwent heart surgery under the School Health National Child Health Programme, says that her son’s health is fine today. There was no pain after the surgery. All this was done free of charge. Initially my five-year-old child was diagnosed with a hole in the heart after he was diagnosed with pneumonia in the civil hospital. After all the reports, the son was shifted to UN Mehta Hospital. Here specialist doctors performed free surgeries. It would have been expensive treatment in a private hospital, which was done free of cost. There was no financial burden on us because of the government.
Under this health program of the government, health check-up of children from newborn to 5 years of Anganwadi, all children studying in class 1 to 12, children up to 18 years of age, Ashramshala, Madrasa, Children’s Home and all other types of children. Appropriate treatment is administered.
