The State of Qatar participated in the Investment Summit (SELECT USA) for the year 2023, which was held from 1-4 May 2023 in the US capital, Washington, DC.
The summit was attended by HE Mr. Saleh Majid Al Khulaifi, Assistant Undersecretary for Industry and Business Development Affairs at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
The participation of the State of Qatar in the Investment Summit (SELECT USA) comes within the framework of keenness to strengthen bilateral relations with the United States of America, and to discuss investment opportunities in both countries.

Round table business
On the sidelines of the summit, His Excellency the Assistant Undersecretary for Industry and Business Development Affairs participated in the round table organized by the American Chamber of Commerce, in the presence and participation of His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Thani, CEO of the Free Zones Authority, and Her Excellency Sheikha Mais bint Hamad bin Mohammed Al Thani, Director General In the Qatar office of the US-Qatar Business Council, a number of Qatari government and private agencies, including the Investment Promotion Agency, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Barzan Holding Company, and representatives of American companies such as Boeing, Motorola, Amazon, and Citibank.
During his participation, His Excellency highlighted the vast investment fields in the State of Qatar and the investment opportunities provided by the state in various promising sectors, especially after the World Cup, in addition to reviewing the most prominent laws and legislation approved by the state, including the law regulating the investment of non-Qatari capital in economic activity. And the law regulating partnership between the public and private sectors, in addition to the incentives and privileges that the state provides to investors.
In addition, His Excellency the Assistant Undersecretary for Industry and Business Development Affairs participated as a guest of honor in the reception organized by the Qatar-American Business Council, in the presence of a group of dignitaries and businessmen from the State of Qatar and the United States of America.

Bilateral meetings
On the other hand, His Excellency the Assistant Undersecretary for Industry and Business Development Affairs held a series of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the Investment Summit (SELECT USA), where he met Mr. Mark Murray, Deputy Assistant US Trade Representative, and Mr. Arun Venkatraman, Assistant Minister of Commerce for Global Markets, and Director General of Services US Foreign Trade and International Markets, and Mr. Dale Tarcharsky, Deputy Director General of US Foreign Trade and International Markets Services at the US State Department.
During the meetings, they reviewed the bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, and discussed aspects of joint cooperation, especially in the commercial, investment and industrial fields, and ways to enhance and develop them in light of the distinguished ties of friendship and common strategic interests that bind the two countries.
During the meetings, His Excellency also shed light on the successful economic policies established by the State of Qatar to support the private sector, indicating the incentives, legislation and promising opportunities available in the country aimed at encouraging investors, businessmen and owners of companies to invest in the State of Qatar.
It should be noted that the Select USA Investment Summit is the most prominent event dedicated to promoting foreign direct investment (FDI) in the United States. It pays special attention to senior government officials, business executives, the private sector and other thought leaders. Each summit focuses on a specific topic related to the investment environment in United States and general industry trends and new opportunities.
For its part, the current year’s edition of the summit will witness the organization of more than 100 different sessions, including dialogue sessions with prominent figures from the US government and heads of companies, and sessions focusing on various sectors such as investment, global supply chains, advanced manufacturing, the automotive industry, the aircraft industry, clean energy and other sectors. other.
It should be noted that the State of Qatar and the United States of America have close economic and trade relations, which reflected positively on the volume of trade exchange between the two countries, which in 2022 amounted to about $6.68 billion, and the United States is the ninth trading partner of the State of Qatar.
