Shonitpur (Assam), 05 May (Hindustan Times). A girl was allegedly abducted from her house by 5 men and raped in a car at Gohpur in Sonitpur district last night. The youth also made a video of the entire incident. It may be noted that two days after the incident of rape and murder of a minor in Tinsukia district, another sensational case has come to the fore in the state.
According to the police, last night around 1 am, a young woman came and lodged an FIR saying that she was raped and the incident was filmed. After this the police immediately swung into action and started the search operation. During this, the police got success in arresting five people.
Of the five accused arrested, one has confessed to the crime while the others said they attempted the rape and filmed the incident. The arrested accused have been identified as Puranchadagwara Basumatary (alleged mastermind), Bipul Basumatary, Songkhor Basumatary, Sohen Gyari and Vijay Musahari.
Significantly, this is the third case of rape that has come to light in Assam in just 5 days. On May 4, a horrifying incident of a 12-year-old girl being raped, murdered and her body dumped in a septic tank came to light. The rapist and murderer was known to the girl.
