New Delhi, 05 May (Hindustan Times). In the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting on Friday, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar lashed out at Pakistan without naming it. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar made a strong statement on the ‘threat of terrorism’ including cross-border terrorism. The External Affairs Minister said that on one hand the world was fighting Covid and on the other the threat of terrorism was continuing unabated.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar reminded members on the second day of the SCO Foreign Ministers Summit in Goa that combating terrorism is one of the core objectives of the SCO. In his opening address, he said today that terrorism cannot be justified in any way. All forms of terrorism, including cross-border terrorism, must be stopped. He said that all channels of funding terrorist activities should be stopped without discrimination.
The External Affairs Minister said that India attaches great importance to promoting development and peace, stability in the SCO through multifaceted cooperation. Jaishankar further said that India, as the SCO Chair, has engaged with SCO observers and dialogue partners by inviting them to participate in more than 14 socio-cultural events. He said that he sought the support of the member states for India’s long-standing demand to make English as the third official language of the SCO. This will strengthen the alliance with the English speaking member countries.
Earlier, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar welcomed foreign ministers of various countries on the second day of the SCO Foreign Ministers’ Summit in Goa. External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar invited Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Pakistan Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari besides Foreign Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan for the Council of SCO Foreign Ministers meeting in Goa. welcomed.
